Wonderful tablecloth in rectangular shape in pure Irish linen thread of very good quality in ecru color with a border and two oval patterns in the central completely openwork and embroidered with flowers and acanthus leaves made with needle point of sand, satin and past infringing white and light gray for some flowers.
The perimeter of each piece is fully scalloped. This magnificent piece is accompanied by its 12 matching napkins with same embroidered floral pattern style of Appenzell. This set dates from the 1920s and comes from Switzerland, St Gallen certainly. The background grid in openwork in Buratto and patterns seamed in fine satin stitch which have been made by an embroidery machine, such as those found in the Swiss canton. The workers handled the machine following a very precise model. It's still very artisanal work and imitated perfectly the hand embroidery. Perfect revolution in hand embroidering world ! In looking through a magnifying glass on the back of the piece that I realized that it was a job half-hand half-machine.

The set is in excellent condition, some traces of past time. As this is an old but all new and never used, I specify that it will need to be washed with a pre-soak beforehand. There are still some patterns protected in paper embroidery.
